About STAT 141 E

Foundational course for students taking further quantitative courses. Exploratory data analysis, probability distributions, estimation, hypothesis testing. Introductory regression, experimentation, contingency tables, and nonparametrics. Computer software used. Credit not given for more than one of STAT 141 or STAT 143.

Section Description

STAT 141 is an introductory course, and students are not expected to have any background in statistics when starting the course. This course will prepare you to use statistics within your field of study and in your daily life. Concepts presented in this course will be useful to critical thinkers in an increasingly data-focused society, and techniques covered will provide a foundation for understanding real-world research. Topics Covered: Exploratory Data Analysis for both Quantitative and Categorical variables, Study/Experimental Design, Probability and Probability Distributions, Estimation and Hypothesis Testing for univariate and bivariate data (including Regression Inference).  Technology is introduced, used for demonstrations, and student proficiency is assessed.

Section Expectation

Course Format: This section of STAT 141 an online course. All students should plan to attend class remotely. Class time will consist of lessons to explain concepts, problem solving, discussions, and activities around key concepts. Course Materials: The course will use an online platform called MyStatLab ) to access textbook for the course which is called "Intro Stats" by DeVeaux, Velleman, and Bock; Purchase of a printed copy of the textbook is not required. Access to MyStatLab is required.


Grades will be based on: Homework Assignments on MyStatLab (lowest 3 dropped) Weekly Quizzes (lowest 2 dropped) 2 Midterm Exams Final Exam Participation
