Section Description
This 3-credit course covers the fundamental concepts and applied techniques to manage project resources effectively and deliver on schedule. Course content addresses fundamental methods for planning, scheduling, organizing, and controlling projects. Though project management is universally applicable, emphasis and assignments will focus on engineering projects. Students will learn project management fundamental principles and methods, with special focus on planning, controlling, managing and closing projects. Course topics will primarily be the technical aspects of project management, but also adjacent topics such as project selection and portfolio management. Examples include developing the project plan; estimating costs, schedules, and the critical path; earned value management; risk; and quality. Students will be introduced to behavioral issues such as management and leadership, cultural differences, organizational structures, and negotiation.
Section Expectation
To the fullest extent possible, class time will be spent with students actively participating with course material, usually in small groups. Because project management requires working with others, class time will provide practice. Project managers are said to spend 90% of their time on communication, so class time will provide opportunities to address both small and large groups
Evaluation
