This course will focus on increasing the quantity and quality of ECI practitioners who can meet the diverse needs of children and families by increasing their knowledge of evidence-based strategies for addressing barriers to implementing EBPs in home and school.

Professionals are responsible for implementing recommended and evidence-based practices (EBPs) that support positive outcomes for children, families, and communities. However, there are many barriers to implementing EBPs in local, regional and statewide systems. This course will focus on developing students into implementation leaders within their own local programs and statewide systems to guide the intended use of evidence-based interventions and innovations to improve the outcomes of families, children, and community membersr with whom they work. Course goals and objectives include:1. Understand the frameworks of implementation science, along with complementary frameworks (e.g., improvement science), and how these frameworks elucidate implementing evidence-based practices in community and school settings. 2. Explain the evidence-base for supporting adult learning. 3. Identify improvements to local and state-wide systems to increase readiness and capacity for implementation of educational innovations. 4. Create a high-quality, evidence-based professional development sequence for colleagues on a personally selected intervention/innovation.
This course combines lecture and discussion formats online. Students should expect to spend 6-8 hours a week on coursework outside of class, with additional time for a semester-long project. Readings are available on the course Blackboard website. Additional readings may be added at the discretion of the professor.
Grades are based on assignments and a final project.
