Section Description: This is an optional clinical course that comprises the clinical practicum sequence in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) held during the fall and spring semesters of the second year of program. Graduate students will be expected to provide services to individuals with communication disorders in an external placement. Supervised practicum will include experience with client/patient populations across the lifespan & from culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds. Experience with client/patient populations with various types & severities of communication &/or related disorders, differences, & disabilities will also be included.
Section Expectations: In addition to time spent in direct service to the client, additional time will be required for preparation and management of the assigned cases(s) including necessary clinical documentation.
The final grade for this course will be the grade assigned for performance in the external placement. Assessment in clinical practicum is ongoing. Feedback on planning, implementation, & evaluation of sessions is given on a weekly basis during meetings with supervisors. A formal evaluation of performance will be conducted at the end of the semester. Students will be expected to self-critique accurately, responsibly, & insightfully.
