ANTH 172. D2: Gender, Sex, Race and & Culture. Cross-cultural study of gender, sex, and sexuality, and race including exploring the cultural construction of categories and cultural practices related to gender, sex, and sexuality, and race. Prerequisite: ANTH 021 or ANTH 026. Cross-listed with: GSWS 165.

Section Expectation

The course will cover 6 content modules and a final, each of which will include a combination of readings, film clips, and discussions on sociocultural variation in views and practices related to gender, sex, sexuality and race.

Evaluation

Students will take part in class discussion and write short (1-2 page) essays approximately twice per a week, as well as a final short proposal for a potential research paper on a topic related to gender, sex, sexuality, and race in sociocultural perspective.
