An analysis of the cellular, subcellular, molecular, and genetic mechanisms that operate during oogenesis and embryogenesis in invertebrate and vertebrate organisms. Prerequisites: BCOR 101, BCOR 103.

Welcome to Developmental Biology, one of the most dynamic and intriguing biological disciplines. In this course we will let the embryos guide us, consistent with comments by one of the field's early experts, Victor Hamburger, who said, "Our real teacher has been and still is the embryo-who is, incidentally, the only teacher who is always right."
Prerequisites: BCOR 101 and BCOR 103. Primary text: Primary literature and “Developmental Biology” 10th Edition (2013) by Scott F. Gilbert. Sinauer Associates, Inc. Sunderland, MA. The 11th edition may also be used. Two copies of the 10th edition will be on reserve at the Bailey/Howe Library (2 hour checkout).
The final grade is assessed based on three in-class exams, homework assignments, in-class quizzes and a mandatory, cumulative final exam. The best way to do well is to attend and engage in every class.
