About ARTH 179 OL1

This online course will investigate topics in Contemporary Art including: Where do artists work today? How are audiences formed? And what can contemporary art do? Assignments will include readings, collaborative projects, online journals, essays, quizzes, and tests.

Section Description

With the successful completion of this online course, students will become familiar with a broad swath of contemporary artists, artworks, and artistic concepts.

Section Expectation

After studying each artist in depth, students will engage each other and their professor in online discussions of their work. In this way, students will learn to participate discursively in the world of contemporary art.


Each module will culminate in a short paper in which students will learn to write about contemporary art.
