Enrolling in the Course Sequence
Anyone with a high school diploma or college coursework/degree is eligible to enroll in the course sequence. Individuals with a Bachelor's degree in a related field are encouraged to apply. Prior experience or current employment in public schools is not required, although preferred. Individuals are required to apply for enrollment in the course sequence prior to admission into the first course. Who might be interested in this Course Sequence?
- Para-educators interested in specializing in the speech and language needs of children in schools as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant.
- College graduates interested in exploring the field of speech-language pathology or entering UVM's graduate program in Communication Sciences. Some academic courses offered in this sequence are prerequisites necessary for application to UVM's graduate program.The following courses serve as prerequisite courses for the graduate program in Communication Sciences: CMSI 80 Introduction to Linguistics, CMSI 90 Introduction to Phonetics, CMSI 94 Development of Spoken Language, and CMSI 164 Structure of the English Language.
- High school graduates who might be interested in gaining entrance into the University of Vermont.
- Parents and family members of children with speech and language needs interested in learning more about how to teach their children.
