An Intensive Program for Non-Business Majors

Put Your Degree to Work
No matter your major, you’ll need to survive in ‘the real world’. But why just survive when you can thrive! By seeing how the knowledge you’ve gained can be applied in creative ways in a business or not-for-profit organization setting, and by understanding that leadership more than ever requires a broad diversity of views, you’ll open up new possibilities for yourself to be successful as you explore life options you hadn’t considered.

The Business of Life
This is the essential life starter program that will ensure that you will not only know what you need to know in order to find a job and to survive in a business setting, but you’ll also learn real life skills such as how to write a resumé, how to make a good first impression, how to arrange your personal finances, and more.

Don’t Leave College Without It!
This is the essential program that graduates are raving about. In just 2 short, but intense weeks you can achieve 6 credits. This Fun! Engaging! Entertaining! Program will help you to fill in the gaps and plan your next steps after college so get started now. This is hands-on and applied knowledge that does not require a strong math or analytical background to understand, so that anyone can benefit from this program. This is the one program that you AND your parents will agree is valuable.


Overview
Are you thinking about going into business, but you're wondering how your major will allow you to do that? Perhaps you're majoring in the liberal arts, but you would like to gain practical experience to give yourself an edge in the job market.

UVM's Business Savvy Program allows you to acquire business skills and experience in just two weeks. Aimed at college juniors, seniors and recent graduates, the program gives you the chance to:

  • Develop competence in the fundamentals of business: economics, accounting, finance, marketing, human resources and strategy.
  • Practice contributing to a team by participating in a business simulation exercise and ropes course.
  • Discover what challenges today's businesses and learn where your talents might fit in.
  • Create a resumé that stands out from the crowd.
  • Build your confidence in making presentations and improve your networking, interviewing and business writing skills.
  • Interact with successful business people from a variety of industries and backgrounds.
  • Discover how UVM alumni and other savvy CEOs started their own businesses.
  • Understand the management issues of Vermont business and non-profit leaders by interacting with them in panel and one-on-one discussions.
  • Visit a local business and see how it operates.

Students can choose to register for this course under the Business School prefix, BSAD 195 (Course Link); or Crosslisted under SPCH 095 (Course Link);six credits, depending which fits their program of study best.
