UVM College of Medicine
UVM’s Post Baccalaureate Premedical students are fortunate to have access to the University of Vermont’s College of Medicine.
UVM’s College of Medicine (COM) is the seventh-oldest medical school in the United States with a rich tradition of providing innovative medical education as well as outstanding research and patient care.
The medical school also has powerful programs in cardiovascular diseases, the neurosciences, lung disease, diabetes, and many other areas.
In addition, we have a linkage agreement with the UVMCOM that guarantees an interview to Post-Baccalaureate Premedical students who meet the bar.
Students enrolled in the Post-Baccalaureate Premedical program have taken advantage of the medical school’s summer course offerings, including medical physiology and medical pharmacology, studying alongside graduate medical school students with medical school faculty.
UVM Medical Center
The UVM College of Medicine has a close affiliation with one of the outstanding teaching hospitals in the northeast, UVM Medical Center, which provides a complete array of medical services and training opportunities and is located adjacent to the UVM campus.
The hospital volunteer program utilizes 450 volunteers and courses in Clinical Research are offered in conjunction with the Emergency Department. UVM’s Post-Baccalaureate Premedical students are fortunate to have access to UVMMC, a hospital that is committed to providing the highest quality of care for patients and their families throughout the region, and have often found part-time employment at the hospital, adding to their patient care experience.
UVMMC provides a full range of tertiary-level inpatient and outpatient services, and has earned the distinction of being designated a Level I Trauma Center. Its nationally recognized physicians and health care professionals are researchers and teachers who are experts on the latest developments in their fields and dedicated to the art and science of medicine.
It is rare to find a medical school and Level 1 Trauma Center teaching hospital on the same campus with a Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Program, but UVM offers this and is located just four blocks from downtown Burlington and beautiful Lake Champlain.
Burlington and the Lake Champlain region, home to about a quarter of Vermont’s population, offer the best of all possible worlds—the ambiance of a sophisticated university town, world-class outdoor recreation in every season, and Vermont’s unique, unspoiled character. It’s easy to get here by air, rail, or car, and with so much to offer, it’s no surprise at all that we were featured as Outside Magazine’stop “Dream Town.”
Burlington is the home of the fifth-oldest university in New England with the University of Vermont, founded the same year Vermont joined the union in 1791. With over 10,000 college students in the greater Burlington area, this lively city was name one of the top 10 college towns in America by The Princeton Review. It was ranked the 2nd Happiest and 4th Healthiest place to live in the US by Self magazine and the seventh most-student-friendly US city (pop. under 1 million) by Collegia.
The core of this vibrant city’s downtown is the Church Street Marketplace, a cosmopolitan assortment of shops, boutiques, pubs, cafés, and restaurants. Its cross-streets are the meeting place for Burlington, where grand architecture of the past blends with the artistic and commercial vibrancy of the present. Street vendors and entertainers keep the atmosphere lively.
Burlington’s nearby waterfront is home to parks, a walking/bike path, fine restaurants, ferry crossings, and cruise boats, as well as concerts and annual fireworks. In the winter, the Burlington region becomes an epicenter of outdoor activity. Within a short drive, visitors and residents alike find internationally acclaimed ski resorts with hundreds of trails and thousands of acres of superb terrain, with fresh layers of snow.
