Programs and Enroll

ABOUT GAP

GAP is intended for students who are highly motivated and have made a commitment to further their education. It is not a remedial program that prepares students for college.

GAP students are enrolled in UVM on–campus and online college courses that are required for degree completion at UVM and at many other institutions. They will appear on your official UVM transcript.

For students who prefer the convenience of an online education, there is an all–online series of courses that qualify for GAP. Contact a Continuing Education advisor to discuss the curriculum of the Online GAP.

GAP students enter into a contract and are required to take a minimum of 6 UVM courses (or 18 credits hours) within a period of three years. Previous academic transcripts, both high school and college if applicable, are required to finalize your GAP contract. All GAP courses must be taken at UVM and must be approved through Continuing Education, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the Dean's office to the college which the contract has been proposed.

GUARANTEE YOUR ADMISSION

For many students, GAP expedites the admission process and eliminates the uncertainties about applying for a degree program. Here's why: Advisors work with each student to review strategies for success based on each student's academic strengths and weaknesses.

Advisors discuss program requirements, possible discipline categories, such as Humanities, Fine Arts, etc., and help students select and register for appropriate courses to complete their GAP program successfully. These courses may include up to three admission requirements, courses for a proposed major, and general education requirements.

All courses must be completed within three years and students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for admission to be guaranteed.

APPLY TO A DEGREE PROGRAM

Upon completion of the program, students need to submit an official application for undergraduate admission to the University.

Application deadlines are April 1 for the fall semester and November 1 for the spring semester. Application for admission may be made while completing the last semester of coursework in the program.

Successful completion of the GAP contract entitles students to a waiver of the admissions application fee.
