Winter Session Online Course; 12/26/13 - 1/10/14. Open to both degree and non degree. This course may or may not fulfill degree requirements for UVM students. Please consult with your Dean's Office if you have any questions about applicability of winter session courses toward graduation requirements.
Has it been a while since you have done algebra? Have you ever touched trigonometry? This course will get you prepared to move on into areas of study requiring a solid base in algebra and trigonometry. During our live/online ?meetings,? I will present material and answer your questions. Also, I will provide you with plenty of opportunity to practice the skills I present. Doesn?t that sound fun? We will "meet" live/online from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, December 30th; Thursday, January 2nd; Friday, January 3rd; Monday, January 6th; Thursday, January 9th; and Friday, January 10th. We will cover the basics of algebra and trigonometry. In addition, we will cover some of the following areas in algebra: operations on signed numbers, rules of exponents, order of operations, solving linear equations, solving literal equations, solving linear inequalities, solving absolute value equations and inequalities, Cartesian coordinate system, slope, forms of line equations, graphing, polynomial vocabulary, operations on polynomials, factoring, solving quadratic equations and higher-order equations, and solving linear systems of equations. In trigonometry, topics we may include are: right triangle trigonometry, trigonometric functions, trigonometric identities, trigonometric equations, and graphing of trigonometric functions. I will determine what to cover with the group, once I know who has enrolled and the needs of enrolled students. You will work hard and learn so much! You will feel well-prepared to move on to your next math course! I look forward to working with you!
I expect you to attend class. I expect you to be early to class. We will start on time. In turn, I will respect that you want to leave on time.
I will pay close attention to participation. I also will administer quizzes and a final examination.
