This is an online discussion seminar in which students will; (1) examine contemporary decision problems faced by investors, financial intermediaries and the central bank; (2) learn how to read and evaluate market data on options, bonds, stocks, forward commodity contracts, etc.; and (3) become familiar with major economic releases and political news that impact financial markets. You will be expected to read the Wall Street Journal every day of the course. You will be assigned a daily topic (such as, central banking and conduct of monetary policy and asked to write up a 250-word summary of an article of your choosing that pertains to the topic and post it to the class blog on Blackboard. You will be expected to read and critically comment on other students? postings. Twice during the semester you will have a one-on-one conversation with the professor via phone or Skype.
