About WFB 185 Z1

The goals of this course are to introduce students to the identification, natural history, and conservation of Vermont's reptiles and amphibians. All Vermont species will be introduced and discussed and twenty will be assigned for further study. The course will consist of four on-campus PowerPoint presentations, three full-day field trips, one final classroom session, and assigned writing and fieldwork. Fieldwork will include the use of active searches, live trapping, night-time road searches, and drift-fences. On the field trips and assigned field activities, students will locate those of Vermont?s herpetofauna that are active early in the year. Field herpetology, offered in the early summer session is designed to complement this course and provide field experience with late-season herptiles, but can also be taken independently. Grades will be based on species write-ups, data sheets, participation, quizzes and a final test. The course is limited to 18 students. WFB 185 is for three undergraduate credits. WFB 287 is the graduate-level section. WFB 287 is available for 1-3 graduate credits. However, the default is two graduate credits unless prior arrangements are made with the instructor.
