Fundamentals of Calculus I is the first course in a two course sequence intended for students in business or the social sciences. Students majoring in mathematics or engineering should take the 21-22-121 sequence. In Math 019 we will investigate the underlying concepts of differential calculus including trigonometry, covering Chapters 1 - 6 and 13 of the textbook. This will include an understanding of functions, limits, continuity, rates of change, derivatives, and applications of derivatives. The material is discovered and shown via mathematical modeling of real world situations. An emphasis is made to understand these new concepts graphically, numerically, verbally, and algebraically. Upon the successful completion of the course a student will understand rates of change, have stronger quantitative reasoning skills, will have enhanced his or her problem solving techniques, and will be prepared to take Math 020.

Course Materials Options
There are two options for course materials available at the UVM bookstore. You can decide to choose one of these options or you may choose to purchase your course materials from another source. Please be aware that the only required item is access to MyMathLab.

Option 1: Calculus with Applications 10th Edition by Lial, Greenwell and Ritchey packaged with a MyMathLab Access Code --- ISBN-10: 0321760026

Option 2: Stand Alone MyMathLab Access Code --- ISBN-10: 032119991X

Note: An e-book version of the textbook Calculus with Applications 10th Edition by Lial, Greenwell and Ritchey is included with the MyMathLab Access Code.
