This introductory course will focus on the application of physical anthropology and archaeological methodologies in a medico-legal contexts in the United States and internationally. We will discuss topics including search and recovery, the biological profile, skeletal trauma, pathological conditions, and taphonomic factors as they relate to forensic contexts. In addition, we will focus on the role of the anthropologist among law enforcement and other forensic practitioners in the medico-legal setting and consider the potential legal and ethical issues that may be encountered in this field.
