Thank you for your interest in teaching for The Center for Leadership and Innovation at The University of Vermont. Our adjunct instructors are paid as independent contractors (unless they are already University employees) We are looking for a long-term relationship with exclusive courses.

Step 1. Complete the application.
Step 2. Email or send the supporting documents listed below to Tracey Maurer.
- A resume that includes your qualifications for teaching adult learners
- Summary of content expertise and/or list of courses taught
- Letters of recommendation, specific to teaching preferred
- Previous course evaluations, noncredit preferred
- If you are suggesting a specific course, please include course title, brief description, four-six key learning objectives, intended audience, why you think there is a demand for the course, and how it fits with our current portfolio.
Step 3. If your qualifications meet our needs, we will contact you to schedule an interview.
Step 4. If selected for an interview, we will also ask you to deliver a 30-45 minute “mini training session.”
Step 5. We will make our decisions based on the qualifications below, your interview, and feedback from those who attend your mini training session.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred
- Maintains a positive learning environment
- Passion for helping adults develop their professional capabilities
- Enthusiastic energy in the classroom
- Ability to design effective learning, including participant materials, learning activities, and follow-up reinforcement strategies
- Ability to customize content and delivery to reflect client needs
- Demonstrated experience teaching professional development courses to adult learners
- Recent or significant experience and expertise in an a role directly related to content area
Preferred Qualifications
- Accomplished in working with people at all levels of an organization
- Uses technology to enhance the learning experience
- Has taught or is willing to teach online
- Relevant professional certifications
- Ability to work across a variety of sectors and industries
- Ability to adjust content and facilitate up or down depending on audience need
